Seen made-to-order clothing on the rise (and handmade to order in particular)? Wondering what all the hype is about? If you have seen brands such as Maison Cleo, Olivia Rose the Label or Hope Macaulay, you probably already agree that made-to-order is the  future. If you haven’t, keep reading to find out our top 5 reasons why made-to-order should be your only way to shop:

1. Clothes that actually fit you

Finally you get clothes that fit. There are so many different body shapes, sizes and that’s without thinking about height variations. Half of all women in the UK are below 5ft3, and clothes are made for women that are 5ft5 and above. It doesn’t make any sense. Other people struggle from being really tall and plus size, you can get tall clothing and plus size clothing, but never tall and plus size. Even if you find a brand that offers clothes that do fit you, it might not be exactly what you’re looking for. There shouldn’t be restrictions just because people have different body shapes.

Made-to-order clothing gives absolutely everybody the chance to find clothes that they like that actually fit them, in just the way that you like. Whether it’s bum hugging trousers, or a specific loose fit dress - you can literally have it just the way you want it.

2. High quality pieces

So much love will go into every piece that you buy. The designer really cares that you have a personal experience and wants to show that there really is an alternative to the fast fashion industry. Even if there is a small problem with the production of the item (real humans do make mistakes!), every handmade-to-order designer that we have met would be more than happy to take it back, and fix it for you. This will help make sure that you have it for years and years to come, and really helps you to maintain a relationship between you and the person who made your clothes.

3. Personalisation

As clothes are made on demand, there is always the opportunity to message the designer and ask for small customisations. Whether it is with the sizing, or a small personal detail, within reason it’s all normally possible. Do you ever go to the shop, try something on and think you would absolutely love it if it was that much shorter/longer/darker etc. Now you can stop dreaming, you can get it the way you want it.

4. Sustainability

As each item is made on demand and to your requirements, made-to-order leaves very little room for waste. Returns are much more unlikely, and items are only made when they are bought, not the other way round. You as the customer are able to have your say in how the item is produced, you will love your clothes for years to come. The more you wear your clothes, the more sustainable they become. So you can do your part, without really trying.

5. Curating a sustainable wardrobe

If the brand you choose will make you anything you want from scratch, it will really help you to get that one item that is missing from your wardrobe. Eventually you will be able to curate your wardrobe exactly as you want it. Just because it’s sustainable it does not have to be boring. The made-to-order world gives you so many options, and makes it easier for you to rep your own style rather than following the trends that fast fashion brands set.
