The best outfits from “The Serpent” BBC series

the-serpent-9-t.jpg

The 70s was one of the most memorable and stylish decades of all time, from the bug-eye and square sunnies to the flares, bell sleeves, silky shirts, and miniskirts. This decade it is making a huge comeback, and if you are a 70s fashion fan, this series is for you!

Twisted and wicked, if you truly love crime and drama, The Serpent is the right mini-series for you. Based on real life events it tells the story of the serial killer Charles Sobhraj (stared by Tahar Rahim), and his girlfriend Marie-Andrée Leclerc known as “Monique” (stared by Jenna Coleman), who murdered Western tourists on Southeast Asia’s hippie trail in the ’70s.

Rachel Walsh did a spectacular job as the costume designer of the series. We couldn’t stop noticing all the amazing outfits from the glamourous Monique whose wardrobe was inspired by such personalities as Jane Birkin, Bianca Jagger, and Françoise Hardy. Every piece that Coleman wears in the show is an original piece, with only four copies made of each, for stunt doubles and damages.

Now we leave you with the best outfits of Monique in The Serpent series.

May contains outfit spoilers.

1. Green Suit

The suits are very common in Coleman’s character, but this one caught our attention…the gorgeous colour, the cut, the buttons, and its collar are so chic! Also, the flower shirt and the sunnies give it all the 70s vintage vibes it deserves.

2. Mixed Pattern Look

This one makes her seem so naïve, but don’t forget she is still a killer’s accomplice. The top and headscarf mixed patterns and the minty pants make such a cool look!

3. Halterneck Top

The halterneck top is a stylish comeback and shows how glamourous Monique’s lifestyle is. Paired it with some wide leg jeans or neutral colour ones for an informal look or with a midi skirt for a more fancy one.

4. Yellow Jumpsuit

How we just love the comfort of a jumpsuit, and this yellow one makes Monique look so elegant. It is a smart piece, as you just need one to build up the outfit, and easy to style, you can complete it with some belt and heels, or even with a kimono on top like Monique.

5. Mint Silk Dress

Silky dresses are always a must and make you feel so elegant! We loved this mint one so much, shame it only appeared in one particular scene.

6. Red Vintage Shirt

This look is the synonym of comfy and relaxed and the combination of colours is so fashionable. Who doesn’t need a red piece in their wardrobe and the perfect wide leg cut jeans?

7. Beach Kaftan

If you’re thinking about the summer already this luxurious white long beach kaftan is to die for! It’s really a good piece to elongate the silhouette.
